Steel Kiss (1986-91)
Platform 9 produced a number of my plays during this period, but my play Steel Kiss dominated – it still is my most popular work. It was most recently produced by Greenthumb Theatre in Vancouver in 2008.
Steel Kiss is based on the homophobic murder of Ken Zellar by a group of teens in Toronto’s High Park in 1985 and the sensational trial that followed.
Most versions of the play over the decades, throughout Canada and the States, have been a response to a similar tragedy in their own communities.
Many productions followed up with an audience discussion, in which people expressed their fear, horror, and confusion over such events.
Blizzard published Steel Kiss in 1991 and then again in 1999 with its sequel called Gulag in a book called Faggot!
